MARIST CORE VALUES

Community

The Marist School Community includes the Marist Brothers, Administrators, Faculty, Staff and other Personnel, Students, Alumni, and Parents.

As a COMMUNITY, it strives to be united and draws its life from Jesus Christ. The following are the necessary components of a Marist community:

Christ-centered

To put Jesus Christ at the center of the community is the internal transformation the school needs in order to be a Catholic educational community and to evangelise the young through integral education. All efforts of Marist School are to be aimed to promote the growth of faith on God the Father, through Jesus Christ, in all it members, especially the students, and the whole community; and to provide opportunities for worship and loving service to neighbors. Everyone has to be helped to know, love and follow Jesus and to see Him in the meaning of human life.

Social Justice

This means that Marist School upholds and respects the dignity and rights of the human person. More than fairness between individuals, Marist School works for the good of society where everyone has equal access to basic goods and human rights are protected and promoted. It strives to inculcate in the students the social teachings of the Church, including the integrity of creation. It is hoped that the students and the school community may be agents of change in society to build a "just and peaceful Philippine society."

Family Spirit

The Marist School community recognizes and relates to everyone as a brother or sister, as a member of God's family. It strives to make everyonme in the community feel that he or she elongs, and is welcomed and loved. While it values unity, it allows for differences in non-essentials and in things that do not undermine the community's identity and unity.

Preferential Option for the Least Favored

Jesus favored the poor in his mission in building the Kingdom of God: "Blessed are the poor (Gospel of St. Luke)." St. Marcellin Champanat founded the Brothers to educate the young especially the poor. The love for the poor is an essential identifying mark of our mission. The disadvantaged in society and school community are to be given priority and special attention. For they are those who need help most. Marist School aims for its education to be available and affordable to the least favored and to inspire the students to be compassionate towards them and to work for social justice and peace.

Christian Education

Marist School education aims "for the integral development of the young." It has to be systematic and intentional. The following are for Marist School Education:

Excellence, Professional Competence and Commitment. Marist School education values excellence in the delivery of tis services, especiallyu instruyction. The students are, in turn, expected to excel in all aspects of their education. The personnel and administrators are required to be competent in their respective roles. They are expected to continue to study and update in their field of specialization and work. Professional competence is a sine qua non for excellence and commitment pushes for competence and excellence. The present and the future offer new knowledge and understanding that can enrich the personnel and administrators and the education of the students. The personnel and staff see their work, over and above income, as service and commitment to Marist School's vision-mission.

Integral. Marist School aims to be a "leading institution for basic education and renowned for the integral development of the young." It aims for the total development of the students. It tries to develop the different dimensions of the students like the body, mind and heart. It helps them to know, learn skill and imbibe attitudes that will make them "good Christians and virtuous citizens." It is integral because it adheres to the Catholic Church's tradition on education that calls or the integration of faith, life and culture and a respect and understanding for anything true, good and beautiful in the sciences, in cultures, religions and peoples.

Christian Faith. Marist School is part of the Catholic Church's evangelization through Christian education. It believes that Jesus Christ is the center, strength and goal of its education and life as a school community. It works for the total transformation of students into educated Christian. It believes that all subjects in the curriculum converged in Jesus Christ as He is the Truth, the Alpha and the Omega. It proclaims Jesus Christ to all students as Lord and Savior, especially in its religious education classes, in the celebration of the Word and Eucharist, and in the witness of the community.

Marial Virtues

These virtues are grounded on the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Marist traditiion. They are to imbibed by the personnel and students andmake her known and loved by others. Mary has the following qualities:

Simplicity. Like mary the members of the Marist School community wish to be genuine and authentic; to be open to changes, insights and opportunities for growth; to be truthful to one another and in work; and to focus on the essential truths of life.

Modesty. A Marist expression "Do good quietly" says it well. Like Mary, the members of the Marist School community attribute to God whatever good thing they accomplish: "My being proclaims the greatness of the Lord, for He has done great things for me." They observe moderation and temperedness in everything they do.

Humility. It is accepting one's reality. It is a realization of a person's nothingness without God. At the same time, he is great because of gratitude to 'God for his favor and mercy. A humble person believes that his worth and greatness depend on God.

Sensitivity to Others. Members of the Marist School community try to be always attentive to the needs of others and respond accordingly. It is a sensitivity expressed in compassion that flows from the recognition of others as brothers and sisters in Christ, a sensitivity that comes from love of Mary and Jesus Christ.
