ONDOY FAILS TO DOUSE MARIPRISAA OPENING
With no foreknowledge of an oncoming deluge, the Marikina Private Schools Athletic Association (MARIPRISAA) 2009 Season opened to the rousing cheer of some 2,000 spectators and athletes on the morning of September 26, 2009 at the Marist School Gymnasium. The event was highlighted by the appearance of the Honorable Mayor, Marides C. Fernando.
MARIST BOYS DESIGN THE BEST BRIDGE
The University of the Philippines Association of Civil Engineering Students (UP ACES) recently held its 4th National Civil Engineering Summit. The weeklong celebration included a career talk, an open tour of civil engineering laboratories, and an inter-high school bridge building competion.
Sponsored by Stick-Wit-U, the competition was held last September 16, 2009 at the UP-NISMED auditorium. Participating schools were Infant Jesus Academy (2 teams), Rizal National Science High School (2 teams), La Immaculada Concepcion School (2 teams), Makati Hope Christian School (2 teams), Don Quentin Paredes High School (2 teams), Claret School (2 teams), Xavier School (1 team), Manila Science High School (2 teams) and Marist School (1 team). Teams were given time to build a bridge based on a set of materials and were judged based on the bridge's design (40%), strength (50%) and craftsmanship (10%). Don Quentin Paredes HS and Makati Hope Christian School won the third (80 points) and second (84 points) respectively while Marist School placed first with 94 points to their credit.
BATCH 84 HOSTS SUCCESSFUL GRAND ALUMNI HOMECOMING
More than 600 alumni came to attend and reconnect with the alma mater on September 12, 2009 at the Grand Alumni Homecoming. Easily considered the most attended homecoming in recent years, the affair was successfully handled by Batch 84.
CREATION TIME OPENS
Marist School celebrated Creation Day on September 1 with students and staff participating in para-liturgies to thank God for his priceless gift of creation and to pray for his guidance in the face of the ecological crisis.
The theme for this year’s Season of Creation is, “A Living Church
and a Livable Climate for the Life of our Children.”It will end on the
Sunday, October 11, dedicated for indigenous people.
The campus
ministry office has prepared special prayers, reflections and songs for the
season. The celebration of Creation Day and the Season of Creation is in accordance
with the pastoral statement of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines
on September 1, 2003. Marist
School is in the forefront in the implementation of the bishops’ statement.
MSAL OPENS
The Marist School Athletic League opened last August 20 amid the usual fanfare and excitement. Organized by the PE Department and the Sports Directorate, the event included competitions for the Best Uniform, the Best Banner and the Muse of the League.
