Alumnus ranks fourth in PLE

Rafael Mendoza, a Marist School alumnus from 2011, landed fourth in the latest Physician Licensure Exam (PLE) held last November 2020.

The graduate from the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health rated 88.17%.

“I was asleep when the results came out! It was only when my girlfriend called that I found out I passed and topped the boards,” Mendoza shared in an interview.

After graduating from high school in Marist, he took up Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences at the Ateneo de Manila University. He graduated in 2015 and proceeded in medical school.

He described his medical school experience as “quite enjoyable.”

“There was rarely a dull moment because I liked learning everything we possibly could in medicine. It was even more beautiful seeing and applying what we learned when we got to our hospital rotations,” Mendoza said.

While the achievement was a cause of personal excitement, Mendoza said that he was happier for his family.

“This was more touching since we had two unexpected deaths in the family a few months ago, and I hope this helped a bit in our family’s healing,” said Mendoza.

Aware of the expectations that come with this distinction, he plans to take Internal Medicine for his residency training.
