Marist Marikina celebrates feast of SMC

As part of the celebration for the feast of St. Marcellin Champagnat, members of Marist School participated in a Eucharistic celebration and a formation session last June 8, 2021.

“Where were you when the world was in darkness?” was a question asked by mass presider Rev. Fr. Marc Anthony Ramos during his homily, echoing the words from the Bible.

The priest and Marist alumnus from 1999 reminded the attendees that they can do something even amidst the pandemic.

“The readings of today seem to bring the light the mission of St. Marcellin. Jesus in his gospel told his disciples to be the salt of the earth and light of the world,” Fr. Marc said.

He also recalled the life of Montagne, which the school patron saint took as the call of God to work for the education of the young.

“Let us be firm in living the convictions of our lives,” added Fr. Marc.

The mass was followed by formation session on “Vocation of the Laity,” facilitated by Br. Josep Maria Soteras, FMS, the general councilor of the Marist institute.

In the session, Br. Josep led a three-part meditation to help the attendees reflect on their vocation, which was likened to “shekinah” or God’s dwelling place in Hebrew.

The three parts contextualized the vocation in the Jewish, Christian, and Marist traditions.

Closing the formation session was a testimony shared by then LRC coordinator, Ms. Fely Carlos, who shared her experiences prior to retiring and how she has become a spiritual guide for her family by having the Marist way of life as an inspiration.

The virtual festivities were held via Zoom.
